Turn training records into a practical training plan

Use roles, changing work and review findings to make training records part of a useful development plan for your team.

Records are a starting point

Training records tell you what learning has been recorded as completed. To plan the next steps, connect those records to the tasks people perform, the conditions they work in and the responsibilities they hold. Start with the role and the work, then consider which learning is relevant.

Ask what has changed

A new process, different equipment, a change in responsibilities or an unfamiliar working environment can prompt a review of training needs. Ask supervisors and team members where further explanation or practice would help. Use audit and inspection findings as inputs, while considering the context behind each finding.

Choose a suitable learning approach

Some topics may be suitable for online learning. Others need workplace instruction, practical demonstration or supervised application. Read the scope of a course before assigning it, and check its assessment and access arrangements. A course title alone is not enough to establish suitability.

Make learning usable

Agree how people will apply the learning after completion. A short discussion with a supervisor, a practical demonstration or a review of the relevant procedure may help connect the material to their role. Training completion is one part of competence; experience, supervision and demonstrated application also matter.

Use the Academy with purpose

Safetyman Academy offers online learning for individuals and teams. Explore the current courses and pathways, then select learning that fits the needs you have identified. For workplace delivery or a broader development conversation, discuss onsite training and coaching.

Keep the plan connected to operations

A practical plan should be reviewed when work or roles change. If you want help reviewing training alongside systems, risk assessments and RAMS, explore Safetyman 365. Your agreed support scope can connect the review to a wider improvement programme.
